Centaurea cyanus L. is an annual or biennial herb of the genus Centaurea in the family Asteraceae. It is also known as blue hibiscus, wheel flower, and blue-flowered centaurea. Cornflowers are about 30 to 70 centimeters tall, upright, branching from the middle. All the stems and branches are grayish-white and covered with thin spider filamentous curly hairs. The flowering and fruiting period is from February to August.
